This group demonstrated that physiologic levels of HDL act as an effective opsonin, facilitating uptake of M41-type Group A Streptococcus by human monocyte cell line U-937. Pre incubation with anti-CD36 antibody (clone SM0) completely blocked this phagocytosis.
